Belgrade Area Dams Committee and Rome Water Quality Committee

DAMS COMMITTEE
The Dams Committee is an inter-local group of volunteers appointed to serve by the participating municipalities of Belgrade, Oakland, Rome, Sidney and Mount Vernon. Committee members oversee the maintenance and operation of Belgrade's three dams: Long Pond/Wings Mills, Great Pond/Village, and Salmon Lake. At its monthly meetings, the committee discusses lake levels, maintenance and operations of the dams, and possible recommendations to municipal officials.
The Dams Committee has 3 Rome members who serve.

WATER QUALITY COMMITTEE:

The Lake Water Quality, Lakes and Natural Resources Committee researches, documents, and promotes the conservation of Rome's natural resources including lake water quality, lakes, streams, wetlands, and groundwater, as well as forests, wildlife, fish and aquatic habitat, shore land, and scenic areas. Specific areas of focus include: Long Pond, Great Pond, Watson Pond, North Pond, Little North Pond, Whittier Pond, Beaver Pond, Beaver Brook, Robbins Mill Stream, Rome Trout Brook, Great Meadow Stream and associated tributaries and watersheds.

Guided by the current Rome Comprehensive Plan, the Committee works in partnership with 7 Lakes Alliance, local lake associations, Town departments, the Town Code Enforcement Officer and other towns and stakeholders that share Rome's natural resources, including land owners and the business community. We specifically collaborate with and have a liaison relationship with other lake associations associated with lakes that are in or border on Rome.

The Committee serves as an advisory body to the Town and, when appropriate, brings recommendations to the Select Board and Budget Committee for consideration.
